Shork-Friendly Places in OpenSim

Finding places where to hang out in OpenSim isn't as superduper easy as one might wish for occasionally. However, we do have a few recommendations for locations where you can easily socialize and meet others:

Location Name hop-URL
Kokomo Beach & Yacht club hop://hg.osgrid.org:80/Tropicana%20Kokomo/705/683/22

Note on Second Life

Second Life is a beautiful platform. When you just want to meet huge numbers of strangers hoping to find new friends and explore weird places, well, then Second Life is a good choice. Though you need to be aware Second Life is not a dating platform. It's been a common joke since years that people mix up Second Life and Tinder regularly. When you want your own piece of land, your place to meet and hang out with friends, a place to learn and have fun, OpenSim is the better choice.

Why doe we at Shorks no longer support Second Life?

The day we needed help and asked for it, we got kicked in the asses and were told that it was all our own fault and that they couldn't be bothered to check or verify their own assumptions against reality.

Permabanning people for the acts of others, without warning, without explanation, without recourse and right on the first occurrence of any type of trouble? We think that counterproductive.
But it's the go-to-solution in Second Life as the parent company gave itself a load of headaches with various decisions in the past that created quixotic situations. This - to a degree understandably, given USA laws - means it's more easy for them to permaban users on suspicion than to to actually solve the issues by preventing certain types of materials in certain types of regions. Something which, by the way, the Kitely Grid in OpenSim does seem to manage. So it is not about it being generally impossible.
Maybe hard, maybe not 100% reliable, but Linden Labs seems to have dropped all hopes to help people improve, turning it from the supportive plattform my friends described it to me for years, into just another social media platform that does not care for anything other than the happiness of their shareholders.
Sad, that.

That is why we support OpenSim. We're sorry for all the creators we will never buy again from as they are working only in Second Life. We understand that OpenSim as a whole is not inducive to businesses. Kitely Grid offers a comprehensive marketplace with a basic system to ensure artists rights are observed - limiting the products to Kitely, but still an option. There are enough alternatives, such as Paypal-based market systems which send copies of the objects into OpenSim. Then, an object wouldn't cost 500 L$, but , say, a dollar. Or maybe two dollar. Or maybe less, as the vendor gets the money directly and not converted through the everfluent market rates of Linden$, thus having to offset conversion losses.
We don't have the answers here. For the most part, we at Shork just agree that it is sad how things have turned out and we agree that, when nobody changes anything, nothing ever will change.
And so we we decided to change things.
