Versioning Information

---|---|
V0.x | Prerelease versions. Handed out to artists and and a few others to help design the initial skin and shape file sets. Contains all mesh files. |
V1.0 | Initial release September 2023. Contains per default the head, jaw, a pair of eyes, skin, male and female shape files, two tails and the non-notched fins for arms and back. During deployment the notched fins ( Earfins, back and arms ) were added, but there might be some packets out in the wild still missing them. |
V1.1 | Optimized release November 2023. Contains all mesh parts, several shape files, male and female skin, two packs with eyes from Aries Quitex and [SKS] Stellya respectively. |
V2.0 | Feature Complete Release January 2024. Includes: Blinking Eyes, Talky Jaw, Sit-Scripted Tail. Streamlined packaging process. Additional / fixed textures will be released here and maybe as new avatars in OpenSim. |
Upgrade Packages
To help people that got older avatar packages or got their avatar pre-assembled from a friend, we deploy optional upgrades in their own boxes. These packages should be located at our main distribution locations, first of all Shork Island in OpenSim. Their hover text and object name should carry the keyword “Shark Avatar” or “Shork Shark” somewhere as a loose indicator. Also, this will be the way we deploy upgrade components until we get to our v2.0 main avatar package milestone (see above).
Shark Avatar Components
Mesh Components and UV Maps
To import the meshes correctly into OpenSim / Second Life, you need to select the following import settings:
The UV Maps can be used as a transparent overlay to create your own individualized Skins.
Or in List form:
- Model Name: Give each component a meaningful name. Their internal names just aren't meaningful.
- Tab “Upload Options”: Scale: Default Scaling factor is 10. For the head, this results in a “male” head. In the packaged versions, the scaling factor for a female head, jaw and the right and left earfins was changed several times between 9.5 and 9.0. In the end we adjusted the size inside OpenSim manually.
- Tab “Upload Options”: Checkbox “Include textures”: Per default, we marked the tickbox. Seriously, none of us knows what actually happens when we do not select it other than that we get white instead of black default meshes in the end. We got that one from a Youtube Video on how to import mesh into Second Life.

Textures
As a note on the eye textures:
After uploading an eye texture, applying it to an eye of a Shork avatar needs one adjustment:
In the Texture tab of the Edit window, “Horizontal Scale” should be equal 1 and “Vertical Scale” should be equal 2.
Again, it just works best this way. When you want a different effect or create your own eye textures, play with these values to find your desired effect.
Also remember that, when designing your own eyes for a Shork Shark, the vertical pupil on the avatar needs the texture to have the pupil horizontally. It rotates by 90°, but given we put a lot of effort into the eyes by the time we realized our error, the group decided to leave it as a quirk.
